Below are some of the questions we're most often asked about our book scanning services. If your question isn't listed here, please feel free to contact us!
What does book scanning actually involve?
Book scanning involves scanning the pages of a book and converting them into a digital format. Book scanning is ideal for many types of books, and can be used in several ways, such as:
- To promote your own work (a book you've written or contributed to)
- To add to public domain materials and make your own niche "info product".
- To make a digital copy of an antique or fragile book for safekeeping
- To have a replica of a book on CD for use with blind reader programs
To learn more about using public domain materials to create your own info product or mini site, we highly recommend Yanik Silver's Public Domain Riches audio seminar.
How long does it take to scan a book?
Depending on the number of pages, it generally takes 5-7 business days for a book to be scanned and for the OCR output (the result of the computer software which digitally "reads" the book) to be edited for any minor errors which may occur.
How much does it cost to scan a book?

Why public domain books?
If you have yet to discover the opportunities of using public domain material to create your own niche info product or mini site, we welcome you to learn more about the program by clicking here (opens in a new window)
I've been told by other document imaging companies that it would be necessary to tear the pages out of my book and cut up its binding in order to scan it. Is that true?
It may be true for other document imaging companies. Howevever, through BookScanning.com, your books are not cut up or otherwise damaged in order to scan them. This way, you save on the cost of rebinding your book, or finding a replacement for it!
What format(s) are the scanned books saved as?
Your finished book will be saved in ".doc" format, which will easily allow you to make modifications, additions or revisions to the finished work. This file format can be read in all major word processing programs, including Microsoft Word (any version), and Corel WordPerfect.
How do we get started scanning my books?
Once we receive your preliminary information form submission, we will contact you (generally by e-mail) to discuss your book scanning needs in further detail. Once you decide to move forward with having your book(s) scanned, we will e-mail or fax a contract for you to sign that covers our agreement. Once we receive the signed contract, we'll get started scanning your books, and will correspond with you along the way should we have any questions or need clarification.
